Nov 28, 1973 | Walmiki is arrested. The brutality of the incident shocked the city
Nov 29, 1973 | The attack leaves Aruna blind, deaf, paralysed and in a vegetative state
1974 | Valmiki is charged with attempted murder and for robbing Aruna's earrings, but not for rape.
The police did not take into account that she was sodomized. A trial court awards Valmiki seven years imprisonment. This is reduced to six years because he had already served a year in lock up
