SAD-Delhi Punjab President writes to PM on farmers' issues
LUDHIANA: Joining the concern for the farmers now Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi (SAD-Delhi) has written to the Prime Minister requesting him for waiving of the loan of the farmers and also for providing them the desired relief from the damage caused to their crops.
In his letter Jathedar Jaswinder Singh Baliawal State President SAD-Delhi has apprised the Prime Minister that Indian being an agrarian country, three fourth population of the country depends upon agriculture.
It is therefore, essential to develop agriculture without which the country cannot become a developed country.
He has further stated that the Central government is making all out efforts to promote industry, but very little is being done to protect the interests of the farmers. Due to Global-Warming climatic changes are taking place abruptly. Most of the brunt of climatic change is being born by the farmers. This Rabi season untimely rains have given a swerve blow to the farmers. Most of the crops have been destroyed. Wheat being the major Rabi crop has been badly effected. Maximum damage is in Punjab and neighboring states. Whatever little crop is saved the per acre yield has reduced from 25 Quintals per Acre to 10 Quintals per Acre only. It has been difficult to recover the cost what to call of profit .
However Baliawal informed that condition is such that most of the small farmers even have no grain to eat and no fodder for the animals. As the Prime Minister Relief Fund was introduced for the natural calamities they proposed that to save the farming community an immediate relief must be given to the farmers from the Prime Minister Relief Fund as it is also a serious natural calamity. It is further requested that loan of the farmers must be waived off as was done by previous Government.
Anyhow he said that the issue needed immediate attention otherwise country might face food crises. We are sure you will realize the grave situation and will take immediate steps to write-off the loans of the farmers to save the farming and to save the country.
