Minnattullah Barbia, who was found murdered on Sunday, was the lone security guard in the two-storey commercial complex at Vijinapura that houses the Union Bank of India branch on the first floor. Barbia was posted as the guard for the ATM kiosk attached to the bank. The bank, however, was unguarded.

A senior police official who visited the spot said there was not even a gate to control access to the first floor. Anybody could just walk up to the first floor of the building, which had a single unarmed security guard. “It was just one assailant and he attempted to only loot the ATM after killing the guard. The bank itself is vulnerable. A gang could have easily robbed the bank,” the official said.

He added that the ATM kiosk was not at all ideal to be operated all through the night. “We need to take a call to shutdown such vulnerable ATM kiosks during the night,” he said.
