Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken on Sunday said there was a need to strengthen the party and admitted that they were voted out by Delhiites due to certain mistakes.
Congress leaders and workers need to redress the voters’ grievances and have to connect with them, Mr. Maken said at a function where Ali Mehndi, the newly-elected chairman of the minority department of the DPCC, took charge.
“There is a need for strengthening the party along with its departments. We have to reach out to the people of every community. Due to certain mistakes, the Delhi people voted us out, but we have to work hard to come back. We have to redress their grievances; we have to connect with them; we have to have a dialogue with them,” he said.
Mr. Mehndi said he would work hard to get back the minority community’s support.
Other party leaders, including Khurshid Alam, chairman, minority department of the AICC, and some former MLAs were present. Mr. Alam said the minority department is the important department of the AICC, which is being run by Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains and Parsis.
“The government at the Centre as well as in Delhi is being ruled by those who do not believe in secularism. They want to ruin the secular fabric of Indian democracy. We need to get back the misguided youth.” — PTI
