TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Art exhibition Biennale Terracotta 2015 is held for the first time on the sides of Bedog River, Kasongan, Bantul starting from May to June. Entitled ‘Art on The River”, the event is set to display sculptures made of clay in rows that stretches on one-kilometer distance.
Noor Ibrahim, the inisiator of the event said there are 55 Indonesian artists and 15 foreign artists taking part in the event. The foreign artists are coming from Sweden, Japan, Italy, Germany, England, Serbia, Slovakia, and Hungaria.
“Visitors can enjoy the artistic works displayed on Bedog riverside by hopping on specially-designed boat,” said Noor Ibrahim when met in his residence in Kasongan, Bantul, last Wednesday.
Participating Indonesian artists are Djoko Pekik, Edhi Sunarso, Dicky Chandra, Hari Budiono, Teguh Ostenrik, and Kondang Sugito.
The abundant availability of clay in Indonesia and the historical relation between the country and terracotta art have inspired Noor Ibrahim to hold the event and to establish Terracotta Biennale Foundation. The event is held on the riverside to appreciate Indonesian culture that stemmed from river culture. In addition, Ibrahim would like to make the event a means to bring back heyday on river culture.
“Rivers become the veins of the earth, a source for economy and transportation,” said Ibrahim.
