Dragon to fire up Baiyappanahalli station

India and China have agreed to enhance cooperation in the rail sector as prime minister Narendra Modi and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang chalked out an action plan which includes proposal to revamp Baiyappanahalli station into a world-class station.

Sources said the Chinese help may be sought for construction of the New Baiyappanahalli railway station though officials say the project is in its nascent stage and they don't have much of an idea. Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, south western railways’ divisional railway manager Sanjiv Agarwal said, “A new station has been sanctioned in this year’s budget for Baiyappanahalli.

The new station is to come up at the place between the existing Baiyappanahalli and Banasawadi stations. The new station will be utilised as a terminal station. An amount of Rs 124 crore has been sanctioned. I think by the end of this year, the plans for the stations would be ready and work may begin next year. However, I am not sure whether Chinese help will be sought for the same station. I am yet to receive details.” However, railway activists feel Chinese help may not materialise going by past experience.
