The police team investigating the engineering admission scam will leave for Secunderabad along with Jayesh J. Kumar, the key accused.
The accused had taken money from students promising admissions in reputed engineering institutes outside the State but cheated them by sending them to an ill-equipped college rented by him near Secunderabad. The investigation team plans to take him around there to collect evidence.
Meanwhile, police on Thursday conducted a raid at the house of Jayesh’s sister at Panampilly Nagar. They reportedly stumbled upon documents relating to properties owned by the accused.
It has now emerged that Jayesh had run-ins with the law dating back to 2010 when Kadavanthra police registered a case (crime number 375/2010) against him and a lady on a petition of cheating filed by one Joseph Gerald of Cheranalloor. As per the case, Jayesh had then an academy by the name Aditya on Karshaka Road in the city.
The academy publicised a course on accident emergency trauma care claiming recognition of Punjab University, American Heart Foundation, and the National Institute of Trauma Research and Studies. The petitioner’s daughter Mary Gritty was one among the candidates enrolled for the course by paying Rs. 17,250.
However, soon it became clear that the academy neither had the resources to run the course nor the recognition for the course as claimed. Kadavanthra police arrested the duo in March 2010 and they came out on bail a month after. Jayesh found himself in trouble even as this case was under trial.
