MUMBAI: Though the Kalbadevi family that lost all their valuables in the Gokul Niwas building collapse has carried on with the scheduled wedding of their daughter, Priyanka Pol, on May 30, they are still awaiting news on their gold which was buried under the debris.
Priyanka resided on the top floor of the collapsed building with her family. Her father, Shivaji, said, “I had gone to the police to inquire about the valuables.
They showed us the debris. But it’s difficult to search. The police plan to segregate the debris so that we can look for valuables.”
The government has provided the Pol family a temporary accommodation in Prabhadevi. The family has lost gold and valuables worth Rs 7 lakh in the fire and building collapse.
Several goldsmiths too had their units in the building and have told the police that collectively they lost around 20kg gold. The police have deployed an SRPF platoon to protect the rubble on Mumbadevi playground.
