I have always stuck to my stand: Uddhav on Jaitapur nuclear plant

Shiv Sena party president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday hit out at senior alliance partner BJP over the land acquisition bill and the Jaitapur nuclear power project.

Speaking at a public meeting, Uddhav continued the party’s aggressive on these two issues. “I am opposed to the land acquisition bill in current form. The world is phasing out nuclear power projects and here the government is imposing it on the people. Why do we want such a project? The ministers are traveling all over the world. They should go and see Fukushima and Cherynobyl also. At least, they will know what are the repercussions of such a nuclear plant,” Uddhav said.

He said he has always stuck to his stand. “News about strain in Sena-BJP relations keeps surfacing. I have maintained my stand always. There are some things that I don’t agree with and will not agree with them. I don’t have any expectations from anybody. There are lot of projects coming up and the sons of the soil must get employment in it. Lot of issues have gone wrong but there are no one to show the right path,” he said.

He also threw his weight behind the farmers’ distress in the state and said that though funds have been released by the centre, they were not reaching the farmers at the ground level. “Either poor farmers don’t have bank accounts or their names are not property mentioned in the land records,” he said.
