Madhushree, popular for her Bollywood songs like Kabhi Neem Neem from Yuva and Tu Bin Bataye from Rang De Basanti, was recently in Jaipur for a short visit. From food and traditional dresses to folk music and sand dunes, the singer had a lot to say about Rajasthan. “I’m sure everyone who comes to Jaipur finds it quite welcoming. It’s a place where every outsider is treated with such warmth and affection, and I also love being here. I have been to Jaipur many times and have seen some other cities in Rajasthan as well, but unfortunately I never get the time to see the desert, even though dunes fascinate me a lot.
I have only seen sand dunes in Bollywood films, so I wish I can manage to plan a trip to the desert in Rajasthan some time,” she said.
A trained classical singer,
Madhushree has sung a variety of songs in Hindi and regional films, but never got an opportunity to sing in Rajasthani films. “I have very high regard for Rajasthani music, which is known all over the world. I would love to lend my voice to a Rajasthani song, if given a chance. The state, undoubtedly, has its lovely musical heritage and I am glad to see that there are people who work hard to retain its beauty,” she said. Another thing that attracts Madhushree’s attention about the state is the traditional
poshak. “Once I did a recording for an audio company, and the owner belonged to Rajasthan. After the recording, he gifted me a beautiful Rajasthani
poshak, which I have seen on Rajput women with heavy jewellery from head to toe. He also gave me some beautiful jewellery, including the headpiece, or the
borla. I loved that, and have kept that dress for Durga Puja,” she told us.
