The Adventures of Charlie Rocky and Daisy carries readers on exciting adventures across the South Georgia woodlands and swamp where they hunt for deer wild hogs doves raccoons and ducks.  They ride in their hand-made boat down the river with the unwanted company of little sister Lucy to catch the prize fish of their dreams.

In addition to hunting and fishing the story about the rattlesnake keeps the reader’s attention and the trip to the State Fair makes reading fun.  The climax of each story builds from Charlie and Rocky’s good intentions that go wrong and Charlie’s struggle with his mama to keep his dog.  She does not approve of his having a dog because she lost sight in one eye from a BB pellet when she was a child and she somehow associates guns with dogs.

However she encourages Rocky and Charlie to hunt and put food on her table.  She is also superstitious believes in ghosts and puts religion above Charlie’s desire to hunt and fish on Sunday.  With farm chores taking most of his spare time Charlie disobeys his mama.  To add to his troubles little sister Lucy tattles about everything he does.

The reader can sympathize with Charlie and hope for a change in his mama’s attitude toward his dog.  Grandpa on the other hand gives Charlie and Rocky advice and helps Charlie out when he gets in a bind.

Will his mama change her attitude toward Daisy and make a happy ending to the stories?
