Dissident DMDK MLA offers to vacate seat to enable Jaya to contest

Madurai, Tamilnadu May 16 (UNI) Dissident Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Party’s sitting MLA T.Sundararajan offered to vacate his Madurai West Assembly Constituency Seat to enable AIADMK General Secretary .Jayalalithaa to contest after she assumes office as Chief Minister. Hailing the acquittal of Ms.Jayalalithaa by Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate asset case, Mr Sundararajan said he was ready to vacate the seat, if “Amma” (Ms.Jayalalithaa is fondly called as Amma by party men) likes to contest from it. He said Amma will certainly win from the constituency by huge margin as she has won the hearts of the people by implementing various welfare measures during her tenure. "I met Amma yesterday and conveyed my wish that she contest from the Madurai West Assembly Constituency. I will consider it a blessing if I quit as MLA and Amma contests from the seat," he said. The DMDK MLA’s announcement comes close on the heels of sitting DMK MLA Anitha R Radhakrishnan (now on suspension from the party) offer to vacate his Tiruchendur MLA seat to enable Ms.Jayalalithaa to contest. Mr Anitha Radhakrishnan and Former Tirunelveli district secretary of DMK party V.Karuppasamy Pandiyan were suspended from the party for hailing the Karnataka HC verdict on May 14. The DMDK leader and actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth had suspended seven dissident MLAs, including Sundararajan from the primary membership of the party and all other positions for defying the leadership’s order by voting against party candidate in the Rajya Sabha poll in 2013. Ms.Jayalalitha has convened a meeting of her party legislators on May 22. Though the purpose for the meeting was not disclosed, there was a widespread speculation that the AIADMK MLAs are likely to elect her as legislature party leader, paving the way for her return as Chief Minister.
