Steady inflow pushes up Bhavani Sagar reservoir level to 56.24 feet

Various parts of Salem district experience intermittent rains

Steady inflow into Bhavani Sagar reservoir has reflected in water level reaching 56.24 feet.

While the inflow was 3,758 cusecs, a discharge of only 150 cusecs was made into the Bhavani river, and just 5 cusecs into the canal.

According to official sources, the rainfall for two days during the week has filled a good number of tanks and wells, addressing fears of water scarcity during summer months.

There were also instances of water overflowing from some of the tanks.

In the last 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Friday, the district received 58 mm rainfall. Thalavadi received the highest of 19 mm,

followed by Bhavani (13), Erode town (10), Kodumudi (9.4), Bhavani Sagar (2.2), Perundurai (2) and Gobichettipalayam (1).

Special Correspondent adds from Salem: Various parts of Salem district continued to experience widespread intermittent rainfall on Friday, too.

The sky remained overcast throughout the day.

Water stagnation on the main thoroughfares, particularly near the AVR junction, in the city due to the continuous rainfall is posing much hardship to the vehicle users.

The drainage on the Junction main road near the AVR junction has also got choked with drain water overflowing on the road.

Plea

People have urged the Corporation to take steps to drain the rain water and also to clean the drainage with immediate effect, as it posed health hazard.

The rural town of Sankagiri experienced the maximum rainfall of 41 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. on Friday; followed by Thammampatti - 17.8 mm; Veeraganur - 17.3 mm; Gengavalli - 14.3 mm; Omalur - 6 mm; Vazhappadi - 5 mm; Salem - 1.8 mm; Yercaud - 1.2 mm; Mettur - 1.2 mm; and Edappadi - 1 mm.
