So do you want me to fly, asks CM
The intent was perhaps good. But Siddaramaiah’s day out on Friday to inspect the ongoing work executed by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) proved to be a nightmare for Bengaluru’s motorists.

Starting from 9:40am, when the chief minister left Krishna, his home office, till 1:40pm, when he returned to Krishna, citizens across the city were subjected to harships thanks to several traffic disruptions.

Traffic inconveniences are an inevitable fallout of VIP movement. But the ‘tyranny of the sarkar raj’ angered citizens who kept on honking continuously as the convoy passed.

Two special Volvo buses were hired from the state transport department for the CM’s tour — Siddaramaiah did not use his official car to inspect the city. Several officials and heads of other departments accompanied him in the bus.

District in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy, agriculture minister Krishna Byregowda and several city-based MLAs accompanied the CM.

However, adding to the motorists’ woes were the CM’s car and vehicles of the other ministers, MLAs and officials that followed the Volvo buses, creating disruptions along the route — from Infantry Road via Lavelle Road to St. Mark’s Road.

When this correspondent asked Siddaramaiah about the chaos created because of his convoy he replied: “Nanu haari hogla? (Should I fly and go?).”

However, he said he will ask officials not to bring their cars during the next inspection scheduled for May 23. “Inspections have to be done. There will be some inconvenience. Next time I will ensure officers will not bring their vehicles.”

Traffic pile-up was seen from St. Mark’s Road till Hosur-Laskar Road and from Old Airport Road to MG Road junction.

Siddaramaiah spent around 20 minutes inspecting TenderSURE roads and pavements at Anil Kumble Circle. After this, he made an unexpected stop at Bowring Hospital on Lady Curzon Road. More than 40-50 cars, which were following the CM’s bus, were parked outside the hospital, causing traffic pile-up.

Around 11:15am, he left the hospital for Krishna but not before he stopped to inspect the Okalipuram eight-lane corridor project, Rajajinagar 10th Cross Flyover on West Of Chord Road, Gali Anjaneya Temple flyover and Nayandahalli Junction. Several motorists protested at Navarang theatre junction by continuous honking.

Ramu Kumar, a motorist, said, “The CM should take the Old Airport Road from Domlur to ITPL during peak hours without police escort to understand the problems faced by taxpayers.”
