Khagaria DM for steamer service on river Kosi

KHAGARIA: Khagaria DM Rajive Raushan, in a letter to principal secretary, state disaster management department, has demanded introduction of steamer service across the confluence of Kosi and Bagmati river near B P Mandal Setu for ferrying the people of neighbouring areas.
It may mentioned here that vehicular traffic on B P Mandal Setu (Dumrighat bridge) near village Dumri on NH-107 over river Bagmati, which served as a link road for the people of Saharsa, Madhepura and Supaul districts besides Beldaur block headquarters of Khagaria district, was closed on July 20, 2010, due to sliding of few pillars of the bridge.
A screw pile bridge parallel to the damaged B P Mandal Setu, which was constructed as an alternative at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore, too was washed away.
