The Avalanche has signed forward Andreas Martinsen to a one-year, entry-level contract.

Martinsen, 24, played for Dusseldorfer in Germany’s top professional league (Deutsche Eishockey Liga) the past three seasons. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound foward finished third on the team in scoring last season with 41 points (18 goals/23 assists) with a team-high 99 penalty minutes in 50 games. Martinsen had five points (one goal/four assists) in 12 playoff contests.

Martinsen is a big player with a mean streak. He’ll add size and grit to the Avs’ third and and fourth lines if he makes the team.

He is a native of Bærum, Norway, and recently played for his country at the 2015 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic. This was his sixth consecutive appearance at the world championships.
