MCI approves 300 MBBS seats in two new medical colleges in Gujarat

Medical Council of India(MCI) has approved 150-150 seats for MBBS course in Junagadh and Himmatnagar based medical colleges. The Government of Gujarat has submitted proposal before Union Health department for further approval. As soon as the permission from centre arrives, the admission process will begin on these 300 MBBS seats.
Gujarat has presently 2930 medical seats for MBBS course. With addition of two new medical colleges the total number of seats will be 3230. In year 2005-06 the state had just 1525 seats. In 10 years, seats are nearly doubled.
Gujarat government had spent Rs 250 crore for each of two proposed medical colleges at Junagadha nd Himmatnagar. It had sought MCI’s permission to start medical course at both these colleges in year 2015-16. MCI had inspected both colleges on 5 May and submitted its report on 13 May. These details were shared by state Health Minister Nitinbhai Patel.
