Move to help women from unorganised sector contact employers and vice-versa; 50 candidates already benefited

Four engineering students have developed a job portal that will cater exclusively to women from the unorganised sector. Four students from two Ahmedabad colleges came up with a unique idea to bridge the gap between women seeking employment opportunities and the employers. The students from LD Engineering College and Hasmukh Goswami College of Engineering have started a job portal exclusively for women from unorganised sectors.“The portal will help these women get in touch with prospective employers and vice versa,“ they said.
The start-up which is called shodho.co might be just a month-old, but its founders have already reached out to at least 50 women from economically weaker sections in the city and introduced them to prospective employers.
Ketakee Nimavat and Takshil Mehta, first year computer engineering students from LD College, told Mirror, “It was during one of the college events -Hackathon -that we met Parth Sharma and Rishiraj Purohit from HGCE. During our brainstorming sessions, we threw around several ideas and an exclusive job portal for women caught our imagination. Later, we decided to build our own portal for the women from unorganised sector.“
According to the students, women in the unorganised sectors possess some unique sets of talent which are hard to come by. “The portal will be the bridge between them and the employer, thus helping the women to be gainfully employed while utilising their skills. To begin with, we are focusing on reaching out to women seeking jobs in enterprises, small business, gruh udyogs etc. We conducted a study in some of the areas and discovered that more than 70 per cent of the women are in search of employment,“ said Nimavat. She said, three Gruh Udyogs have placed their employee requirements with the portal. Currently, the students are working offline while they continue to test the feasibility of the portal and complete their education. At a later stage, they will create a database of jobseekers and employers.
“This will help employers get directly in touch with prospective employees. Initially, we will not intervene in terms of minimum wage but once we complete study and the portal works full time, we will ensure women get adequate income,“ stated Mehta.
