Bengalureans will put on their running shoes this Sunday for World 10K Bengaluru's eighth edition

This Sunday morning, all roads will lead to the Kanteerava Stadium as Bengalureans put on their running shoes for the eighth edition of the World 10K Bengaluru. The annual extravaganza will bring together running enthusiasts and professional athletes, including those as young as 15 and as old as 70. What’s at Stake?

Those who finish first and second (male and female) in Open 10K, the most popular race category, stand to win Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively across 12 age groups, only if the race is finished within 90 minutes. The total prize money up for grabs is Rs 1.23 crore. Overall winners (Indian and overseas) of the World 10K can win $21,000 for first place, up to $1,000 for the tenth. Indian finishers get to win `2,50 lakh for the first place to Rs 30,000 for the tenth place.

Roads Shut for Motorists

Movement of vehicles is prohibited from 6am to 11pm on Kasturba Road, MG Road (up to Anil Kumble Circle), Cubbon Road, Kamaraj Road, Dickenson Road, Halasuru Road, Queen’s Road, Ambedkar Road and roads inside Cubbon Park. Participants can park their vehicles at UB City while viewers can park at St Joseph’s Indian High School grounds.

Setting the Record Straight

Bengalurean Kashinath Aswale’s feat of 29:59 minutes in 2008 remains unbeaten along with Maharashtra’s Kavita Raut’s 34:32 in 2009 in the World 10K category for Indians. Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor (27:44) and Lucy Kabuu (31:48) are the record holders in the male and female categories respectively. Bengaluru-based Molecular Connections CEO Jignesh Bhate is the fastest with 1:19 minutes in the CEO Dash (400m) category
