Nellore: As many as 20 persons, majority of them children, living in Jagannadharao Peta, Sivalayam Veedhi and Thoorpu Veedhi area of Atmakur town injured when a mad dog went berserk biting people during the early hours of Thursday.
Most of the victims were those who were sleeping outside their homes in view of summer. The injured have been rushed to the government hospital and some to private hospitals in Atmakur for treatment.
Sanitary staff of Panchayat Raj department launched a search for the mad dog and it took them nearly three hours to trace and kill it in the outskirts of the town at Lakshmanarao Palle.
Of the 20 injured, eight were treated at the government hospital and the rest in various private hospitals. Atmakur revenue divisional officer M.V. Ramana visited the victims at the hospitals.
