The danger zone should not be violated as it is the first preventive step from the eruption."
Tomohon (ANTARA News) - Three volcanoes in North Sulawesi, Karangetang, Lokon and Soputan, continue to be on alert level III status as they are still witnessing high volcanic activity.

Head of the Volcanology and Geology Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) of Kakaskasen Farid Ruskanda Bina said here that due to the high volcanic activity, the agency has set an exclusion zone around each volcano.

The PVMBG set an exclusion zone of 2.5 kilometers around the Lokon peak in Tomohon district and of 6.5 kilometers around the Soputan volcano in Southeast Minahasa district.

"The danger zone should not be violated as it is the first preventive step from the eruption," Farid cautioned.

The three volcanoes have been on alert level III status since June 2014.

Moreover, other volcanoes in North Sumatra, including Mahawu in Tomohon, Ambang in Bolaang Mongondow, Tangkoko in North Minahasa, Awu in Sangihe Islands, Ruang in Sitaro, and Klabat in North Minahasa, are on normal status.
