KARACHI: Karachi and Sialkot were the only sides to win in the third and final round of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars U-16 tournament on Thursday with both crushing their respective opponents by innings.

Karachi, as expected, outclassed Larkana by innings and 96 runs in their Pool ‘C’ fixture here at the National Stadium. The visitors, who were in dire straits at 42-5 in reply to Karachi’s 372-8 on Wednesday’s opening day of the two-day match, ended their first innings at a measly 91 all out.

Paceman Sohail Khan was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 6-44 in 14 overs.

Following on, Larkana managed to put up some fight before being dismissed for 185 thanks to the efforts of Javed Ali (66 off 173 balls, four boundaries) and Uzair Ata (52 off 33, nine fours and one six).

Sohail once again led the Karachi attack to claim 4-61 in 14 overs, giving him match analysis of 10-105. Off-spinner Mohammad Zahid provided good support by snaring 4-56 in 19.3 overs.

Sialkot, meanwhile, were too strong for Quetta as they up chalked victory quite comfortably by an innings and 59 runs in the Pool ‘A’ encounter at the Ittefaq Cricket Ground in the Model Town area of Lahore.

Quetta began their overnight first innings at 50-3 but were sent packing for 142 with off-spinner Ansar Irshad claiming four for 20, paceman Usman Sajjad 3-33 and slow let-armer Mohammad Awais 3-34.

Sialkot, who made collected 308 in their first innings on Wednesday, promptly enforced the follow on and duly rewarded when Quetta subsided to 107 all out in less than 42 overs.

Ansar once again proved unplayable as he took 5-16 (match bag of 9-36 in 23.5 overs) while paceman Zakirullah captured 4-40.
