A pal of gloom descended on Lakshmipuram of Sitanagaram mandal on Thursday after three persons were drowned in Swarnamukhi River.
The deceased have been identified as Krishna (42) and his nephews Mahendra (9) and Nagendra (7).
According to police, the children came to Lakshmipuram on their summer vacation. They, along with Krishna, went for a swim to the river.
Thinking that that there was not much water in the river, they plunged into it.
First, the children got drowned and Krishna lost his life in his attempt to save them.
Sitanagaram Police have sent bodies for post mortem and registered a case.
