Newly-wed woman turns out a transgender
KANPUR: A man discovered that his wife is a eunuch after marriage rituals in Mainpuri district.
Manoj (name changed), a native of Kailti village in Kishni area of Mainpuri district was engaged to a girl hailing from Parsauli village of Hardoi district in April. The marriage was solemnized on May 9.
Manoj alleged that his relatives had visited his house with a marriage proposal in March this year.
They claimed that they knew a girl from Parsauli village of Hardoi, who would suit him. Coaxed by his relatives, Manoj and his family members visited the girl's village. After discussions, the two families agreed on the alliance and the couple tied the knots on May 9.
After post-marriage rituals that were solemnised on May 10, the night of May 11 turned nightmarish, when Manoj discovered that the girl had shown little interest in consummating the marriage. He grew suspicious and told his parents, other family members and close friends about it. He subsequently found that his bride was a transgender, posing as a woman.
The bride’s parents tried their best to convince that their daughter was physically fit.
Finally, the police was called as members of both families started quarrelling. A panchayat was convened in which the money and gifts exchanged by the two sides were returned.
“The groom’s family and villagers were angry that the bride’s family had cheated them and hid fact about the girl and demanded a criminal case against them,” village sources added.

The village ‘panchayat’ ordered the bride to undergo a medical test to determine her sex. A lady doctor examined the bride and declared that the woman had abnormal genitalia.
Manoj said: “I tried hard but there was no physical relation. She convinced me that she was observing a ‘vrat’ (fast) and that she would only get physical with him after a final ‘puja’ to be performed at a temple at her native place in Hardoi next month. When I persistently questioned her, she admitted that she was a transgender and not a woman. I was horrified.”
The girl’s family was allowed to return only after they agreed to return gifts exchanged during pre-marriage rituals and reimburse the expenses incurred by the family of the groom on arrangements.
Station house officer (SHO) S R Gautam said that the matter had been amicably resolved between the two sides and there was no further dispute and hence no case was registered.
