Bindu P. Nambiar, a schoolteacher, has found the first exhibition of her paintings encouraging given the response it drew from art lovers.
A collection of her mural and Thanjavur paintings at the exhibition here shows the artist’s penchant for warm colours.
The choice of colours for her mural and Thanjavur paintings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology also reveals her passion for painting Theyyam ritual forms of north Malabar. She said the exhibition of her 31 mural and Thanjavur paintings, which concluded at the Brushmen Art Gallery on Thursday, drew good response from art enthusiasts.
Eight of her works exhibited at the gallery had been sold. From her passion for facial art of Theyyam, it was easy for her to move to Thanjavur and mural paintings, Ms. Nambiar said.
She had undergone fine art training at the Brushmen School of Arts and then learned Thanjavur painting in Puducherry, where she had lived for a while.
Though both Thanjavur and mural paintings depicted deities in Hindu mythology, mural paintings were generally preferred in Kerala. Most of the works sold at the exhibition were mural paintings, she said.
Working as art teacher at Chinmaya Vidyalaya here, Ms. Nambiar said she had also specialised in drawing images on dress materials, including shirts, some of which were on display at the exhibition.
