SILCHAR: The chief judicial magistrate’s court in Karimganj district has summoned Congress MLA Rumi Nath to appear before the court on May 20.
The additional chief judicial magistrate in Karimganj, Sah Saiyad Ahadur Rahman, issued the summon in a case where Rumi (37) and her estranged husband Jacky Zakir (30) were assaulted by a mob at a Karimganj hotel on June 29, 2012. Both Rumi and Jacky were critically injured in the incident.
The Congress MLA is now under judicial custody in Guwahati.

On April 14, Rumi was arrested for her alleged links with a car-theft racket whose kingpin was nabbed earlier last month.
The chief judicial magistrate of Guwahati sent her to judicial custody on April 15.
The MLA from Barkhola in Cachar district was arrested under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 212 (harbouring offender), 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery) of the IPC.
Additional chief judicial magistrate in Karimganj said the MLA will be treated as an ordinary inmate knowing that she is under judicial custody in another case.
However, the magistrate added that only a government pleader will be allowed to talk to Rumi when she would appear before the court and only assault-related questions can be raised.
The two-time MLA had married Zakir in 2012 after converting to Islam and without divorcing her first husband triggering a controversy across the Barak Valley.
The couple was assaulted by a mob at the Karimganj hotel in June 2012.
They parted ways last year and are living separately since then. Zakir is also in judicial custody in Guwahati for his alleged involvement in a car theft racket.
