City techie passes away in the U.S.

A city-based software engineer Venkat Panchapakesan (48) of Rukmini Nagar in Ramanathapuram area, who worked as Senior Vice-President of Engineering and Research at Google’s YouTube passed away in California on Monday.

His demise came just five days ahead of his 49th birthday. The techie is survived by wife, son and daughter.

A distinguished alumnus of three renowned institutions in Coimbatore, Venkat Panchapakesan was the son of leading lawyer Panchapakesan.

His brother Vijay Raghunath is also a lawyer.

Venkat Panchapakesan passed out of Mani Higher Secondary School and Stanes Higher Secondary School and did his BE in Electronics and Communication at CIT.

He obtained his MS from Buffalo University.

After a short stint in an IT firm in the US, he joined Yahoo in 1997. His initiatives for ensuring a safe passage of computers through the Y2K fear won him the ‘Yahoo Star/Yahoo Hero’ title.

He was battling ill-health for some time and a relapse this time claimed his life, said Devi Srinivasan, his sister. Ten of his immediate family members were already in California for the last rites.
