RAJKOT: The town-planning department of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Thursday sealed the Hotel Bizz on Yagnik Road, for alleged encroachment and illegal construction of a conference hall and kitchen in the parking space.
The civic body has launched a drive against encroachments on parking spaces. Under this drive RMC will remove encroachments from one road everyday.
On Thursday, RMC team carried out demolition on Yagnik Road and removed over 13 encroachments
."Bizz Hotel with 27 rooms had constructed conference hall and kitchen in area meant for parking. We demolished the structures and issued notice to its management to clear the parking area within seven days or its permission to run a hotel would be cancelled,'' said a senior RMC official. Meanwhile, RMC's health department carried out checks at the hotel's kitchen and found that the food was stale and was being kept in unhygienic condition. They destroyed 95kg of substandard food items.
"Yagnik Road is one of the city's busiest commercial roads. But many shop owners have encroached the parking area and extended their shops. As a result, people are forced to park on the road," said an official.
The encroachments were demolished at Kuber Complex, VJ Jewelers, Vitamin Food Zone, Topaz Arcade, Hirapanna Complex, and in City Plaza on Yagnik Road.
"The shop owners constructed shops into the cellars which were actually meant for parking. We have demolished three shops in the cellars," RMC official added.
