No ED remand for betting accused
AHMEDABAD: A special court for PMLA cases on Thursday rejected the remand application filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking custody of two Delhi-based persons in the alleged cricket betting racket.
Special judge A P Bhojak rejected the plea seeking 10-day remand of two brothers – Ritesh Bansal and Ankush Bansal. The judge said that ED had failed to produce proper grounds for remand.
The court also observed that ED has already possessed various documents in connection with the case and hence there was no need for custodial interrogation of the accused.
The court accepted defence's arguments that the prosecution failed to produce the duo in stipulated time period of 24 hours. Meanwhile, Gujarat high court issued notice to ED over bail plea filed by two other accused in this case, Dharmin Chauhan and Chirag Parikh.
