Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal should they fail to land Petr Cech this summer.

The Gunners though could face competition from Liverpool and other Premier League clubs.

Schmeichel, the son of Manchester United goalkeeping legend Peter, has impressed in Leicester’s climb away from relegation and has kept Mark Schwarzer on the substitutes’ bench.

The 28-year-old is believed to be happy at the King Power Stadium, but would no doubt be interested in a move to a Champions League club or a club with top-four aspirations.

Schmeichel only signed a new contract at Leicester last summer that runs to 2018.

Arsenal’s search for a new goalkeeper puts a big question mark against the long-term future of out-of-favour Wojciech Szczesny.
