Jorge Posada: A-Rod, Roger Clemens shouldn't be in Hall of Fame

Former New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada says players linked to using performance-enhancing drugs, including his former teammates Alex Rodriguez and Roger Clemens, should not be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Posada spoke to CBS This Morning about his career to promote his new autobiography, The Journey Home: My Life in Pinstripes.

"I don't think it's fair," Posada said. "I really don't. I think the guys that need to be in the Hall of Fame need to be a player that played with no controversy."

Posada is also upset about losing out on the American League Most Valuable Player award to Rodriguez in 2003.

“You know, the only thing that I can think is 2003,” Posada said. “You know, I was close to the MVP. Didn’t happen. Alex won the MVP and, you know, I think second was either Carlos Delgado or David Ortiz, I don’t remember. But, I was almost there. You know what could’ve happened if ... you know, it’s tough. It’s really tough.”

Posada had a career year in 2003, hitting 30 home runs and driving in 101 runs, while Rodriguez had 47 home runs and 118 RBI, leading the AL in runs scored and slugging percentage in his last season with the Texas Rangers before being traded to the Yankees during the off-season. Posada finished third in the voting, behind Rodriguez and Toronto Blue Jays slugger Delgado.

Rodriguez said he hadn’t read Posada’s book and refused to criticize him when asked about Posada’s comments.

"I consider Jorge a friend," Rodriguez said, according to USA Today. "Jorge's always worn his heart on his sleeve and that's fine. He was a great teammate and a great player for a long time. What I remember the most is sharing and winning a championship in '09. I have nothing but good memories."
