Nagpur: A meeting held in Delhi on Wednesday paved way for the land reserved for Gajraj project to be handed over to Mihan. Indian Air Force officer Bapat and MADC vice-president and managing director Tanaji Satre signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard.

Under the MoU, the 278 hectare land of the Gajraj project will be handed over to the government. The state government, in return, will hand over 400 hectares of land to the air force. The matter had been pending in the defence ministry from six years.

The MADC had sent a proposal to the defence department in June 2009 but the matter had been pending since. But the Indian air force and the MADC had conflict of interest over a 46.4 hectare piece of land out of the 278 hectares as a result of which the Indian air force did not sign the papers.

The then prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh had ordered handing over of the land to the state government in 2013 but the orders were not followed. However, the Modi government took the decision over the land in a cabinet meeting held recently.

The government has already prepared global tenders for the development of the airport but since the land has not yet been transferred to the government, the tenders have been kept on hold.
