The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis has moved the Union government to change the nomenclature of safai karamcharis to “Swasth Rakshak” or “Swasth Sainik”, which would be appropriate to the sacrifices made by them to ensure others live in a healthy environment.

Disclosing this at a review meeting of the welfare schemes meant for safai karamcharis here on Wednesday, member of the commission, Vijayakumar said that commission had written in this regard to President Pranab Mukerjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Social Justice Ministry.

Benefits

Mr. Vijayakumar said that the Safai Karamcharis should be treated on par with soldiers and must get all the benefits.
