PFI takes out march against UAPA

May 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KANNUR:

Popular Front of India (PFI) activists staged a ‘black march’ to the Collectorate here on Wednesday as part of their Statewide protest demanding revocation of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The march was inaugurated by PFI State president C. Abdul Hameed. District functionaries of the organisation V. Basheer and secretary P.K. Thwaha Thangal were among those who addressed the protest.

They alleged that the highest number of cases under the UAPA was registered in the Kannur district. Apart from PFI activists, UAPA was slapped against Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers. Many of those arrested in cases registered under UAPA were being denied bail, they said.
