The success of the Tanoa Hospitality Championship has led to a number of organisations approaching the group to assist them organising similar events on a national scale.

The event is designed around the Tanoa Hotel Group staff members in recognising their talents, skills and contributions to the organisation and tourism as a whole.

On the day, the staff will compete against their friends and colleagues of the sister Tanoa properties in what they do every day as part of their work.

Group Training and Development Manager, Reddy Group, Alamgeer Shah, confirmed they have been approached by the Fiji Chefs Association to run something similar.

“We have been approached by other properties as well. So instead of our own hotel, we can have it like where all other hotels come and compete,” he said.

The 2015 Tanoa Hospitality Championship, a prominent annual Tanoa Hotel Group event, was held yesterday.

Mr Shah said for this event alone, six of their properties around Fiji with about 150 people with five departments took part in the competitions.

“When we introduce the new criteria in line with the changing times, it’s all about market trends, customer preferences,” he said.

“We basically revise our criteria to be in par with market trends and customer preferences.”

Samoan property

The Tanoa Hotels Group took the hospitality championships to its property in Samoa – the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel – two weeks ago for the first time.

Mr Shah said they had received very good responses as well as suggestions.

The success will be resounded next year in Samoa as the group plans to take it to a regional scale including other resorts/hotels in Samoa to compete as well.

“So other hotels will come and compete and not just Tanoa. We will be the pioneers of the framework,” he said.

This in line with the Tanoa Groups of Hotel’s vision of being the most admired local chain of hotels in the South Pacific.
