COIMBATORE: Based on a petition filed in the judicial magistrate's court on the cruelties faced by two prisoners, Aneesh RP 656 and Ajith RP 655, judge M Nambiraj has called for a hearing on May 15.
A Philomina George, mother of the two prisoners, had sent several representations to the chief minister's office regarding the cruelties faced by her sons in the Coimbatore central jail.
On March 20, she sent a letter to the Tamil Nadu CM stating that the operation cell team of the jail was harassing her children and offcials were not even dressed in their uniforms while on duty. "They are torturing prisoners and are disturbing us as are witnesses," stated the letter. She sent another representation on May 4. Based on these letters, advocate Tholkappian filed a petition in the judicial magistrate's court.
"Philomina met her sons on Wednesday and they informed her that they were not given food for two days after her letter to the chief minister . The officials were asking them to tell their mother to take the representation back," said Tholkappian. As per her letter, they were also beaten by the officials. "We will collect evidences and based on that would appeal on May 15," he said.
The two are under-trial prisoners who have been in the jail for more than a year and are natives of Eranakulam.
