The Worthersee GTI Meeting may be all about VW Golfs, but Czech carmaker Skoda seems to be more concerned with the Fabia. It brought no less than five sporty vehicles, of which the Fabia R5 Combi is the most interesting.
It's just a show car, but it reinterprets the rally theme with the help of a small wagon body. The R5 Combi's eye-catching, white, green and black paint is joined on stage by no less than five sexy girls in high heels and sexy costumes. We think it's safe to say that will never happen in real life with the average Fabia.
The changes started at the front, where Skoda's motorsport mechanics added a more powerful front bumper and wide air intake. The bonnet is vented, and the wings massively flared, making room for rally-spec suspension and 18-inch alloys.
Flared mudguards and powerful doorsills are just some of the features letting you know a rally-spec 1.6-liter turbo engine resides under the bonnet. The rear sports a huge wing, as well as a giant rear bumper that integrates the exhaust pipe positioned in the center.
The interior is just like that of the real R5 racer, with a full roll cage giving way to carbon fiber panels, naked aluminum and switches that are more "Simply Crazy" than "Simply Clever". The funny thing is that the boot still opens so that you could race your way home from a trip to Ikea in this car.
Also present at the Worthersee is the Skoda FUNstar, which Skoda describes as a "sassy pickup based on the Fabia". We'll have more photos throughout the day, so stay tuned.
