Amish Tripathi in city to promote new book

SURAT: This IIM graduate with mathematics as a major subject and a banker by profession has become India's new literary icon in the few years. With 2.2 million copies of his works sold in five years amounting to more than Rs 60 crore, Amish Tripathi is now a well-known among those reading Indian writers in English. His stories revolve around the issues of youth with a mythological background.
On a visit to Surat to promote his new book of Ramchandra series named Scions of Ikshvaku', Amish told TOI, "There were two major factors that led me to start writing. One was a philosophical argument with the family on what is evil and persistent. The second was insistence of my elder sister and twin brother to start writing."
"When I started writing on the mythology, I honestly didn't even think that it would ever get published. But, then I am an instinctive writer. I believe in putting my thoughts to paper first because I don't like to be a victim of paralysis by analysis. I write for myself first and then for others," he said.
Talking about his new five book series based on the life of Ram Rajya and Ramchandra, he said, "When we talk of the best rule, everyone talks of Ram Rajya. I believe that Rama taught us to believe in law and I am trying to say that after all believing in law could also be cool for all."
Refusing to compare his popularity derived from his Shiva Trilogy with any western series he said, "I feel we should remember Bapu and his advice of not to forget our roots. Keep the windows open for winds to blow. Enjoy the breeze but don't get blown away by that."
His books The Immortals of Meluha , he Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras have collectively broken records and are now being published in US, UK, Brazil and other foreign countries.
