A three-member gang murdered M. Subramani of Poondi near Polur, owing to personal enmity, at Poondi village on upper Kodaikanal on Tuesday.
The police said that the gang comprising R. Azhagesan of the same village, his brother R. Palanisamy and his friend Balu attacked the victim with a knife near the village temple this morning.
Local people rushed him to Kodaikanal GH, but he died on the way to hospital.
After preliminary investigation, the police said that Azhagesan, in an inebriated condition, misbehaved with women and other villagers during a temple festival on May 10.
Subramani, who intercepted him, advised him not to disturb the people and asked him to go home. Azhagesan quarrelled with him and left the place. In a fit of anger, he and his accomplices attacked him while he was standing near the temple. A case has been registered in this connection.
