P. Mani alias Rajamani (40) of Padappakurichi was allegedly murdered by K. Ilayaraja (38), a police constable of ninth battalion, Manimuthar, at Padappakurichi on Tuesday. According to Palayamkottai Inspector of Police P. Krishnan, a land dispute between Mani and Ilayaraja led to the murder. There was long-pending enmity between the two over the land. Mani had hacked Ilayaraja’s grandmother to death in 1996. Mani was arrested following the murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released in 2009. There was a quarrel between Mani and Karunanidhi, father of Ilayaraja, recently over the disputed land and a case was filed against both, the Inspector of Police said.
