In a shocking industrial accident at a factory in Ambattur on Tuesday morning, a 22-year-old woman was pulled into running heavy machinery after her dupatta got entangled in its wheels. She died on the way to a hospital.

Sources with the Ambattur Estate police said the victim Nirisha Gopalakrishnan, a native of Karnataka, had come to Chennai with her sister and rest of the family on vacation. Her industrialist father Gopalakrishnan runs a unit dealing with cutting of iron sheets, at the Ambattur Industrial Estate.

Around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nirisha and her family members came to the unit for a casual visit. “As they were going around the factory, Nirisha’s dupatta got caught in the wheels of a heavy machine which was operating at high speed. The cloth got pulled into the machine alone and so was the young woman,” said Karnan, Inspector of Police, Ambattur Estate.
