Truck laden with copper wires from Sterlite stolen

A truck laden with copper wires was stolen at Nagarasampatty near here in the small hours of Monday. It was carrying copper wires from Sterlite Industries in Tuticorin and was heading to Peenya industrial estate in Bangalore.

The truck, owned by Kumar of Paaparapatty here, had left Tuticorin on May 9.

On Sunday night, truck driver Moorthy, a resident of Pochampally, had halted for the night at Nagarasampatty and had parked the vehicle on the premises of a closed petrol bunk.

When Moorthy returned on Monday morning, he found the truck missing.

According to Paaparapatty police, the truck had copper wires worth Rs.1.11 crore, but lacked a GPS tracking device.

According to the special branch office, no precautions were taken, and the truck was left unattended in a petrol bunk that was shutdown for the night.

Based on the complaint, two special teams have been constituted, with one each deployed to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
