They further said that despite raising the issue with the invigilators, their question papers remained unchanged, costing them crucial 30 marks of the examination. Speaking to The Hindu , D. Vijayan, an aspirant hailing from Chittoor district, maintained that the optional section could be answered in any language mentioned in the notification such as English, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Tamil, Oriya, Kannada, and Sanskrit.

“I have opted for Tamil and there are others who have opted for Hindi, Urdu, and Sanskrit. But, all of us have been given Telugu language section of the question paper,” he rued.

Citing the syllabus mentioned in the notification, another aspirant D. Vijay Kumar too asserted that the part could be written in the language of the candidate’s choice.

‘Fault of candidates’

When The Hindu sought a clarification, the District Educational Officer (DEO) K. Samuel attributed the discrepancy to the fault of candidates during online submission of applications, as planning and distribution of question papers goes in a planned manner based on the aspirant’s options.
