PSEB Class XII Results: Mohali again among lowest-ranking districts, pass percentage dips sharply

Worse still, only eight students from the district – none from Mohali town – made it to the merit-list. All of them are girls.

Last year, the district had the second lowest pass percentage in the state, while this year, district-wise detailed results are yet to be compiled.

However, officials said that the district is once again among the lowest ranking districts.

In terms of meritorious students, Mohali is only ahead of Nawanshahr, Mansa, Ferozepur and Pathankot.

“The poor performance of Mohali district is a challenge before the state. Why the performance of the district has remained poor year after year is a challenging question, and we are looking into the issue,” said PSEB chairperson Tejinder Kaur.

Last year, education minister Sikander Singh Maluka had maintained that the poor performance is a result of “VIP postings” – teachers belonging to influential families get themselves transferred to Mohali due to its proximity to state capital Chandigarh.

Driver’s daughter bags first position

It was the best day in the life of Inderjeet Singh, a private driver based in Kharar, after his daughter Jaspreet Kaur bagged the first position in the district by scoring 96.89 percent marks. Jaspreet, a non-medical student of the Government Senior Secondary School in Kharar, said, that she took no coaching during her preparation.

“I relied on self-study and my teachers for the examinations. I am grateful to my family and my school for helping me attain this success,” she said, adding that she wants to become an engineer. Her school principal Bhupinder Singh said, “It is a proud moment for the school as even the Commerce topper from the district – Aditi – is from our school.”

Swati Kalia, a student of Government Girls’ Model Senior Secondary School, bagged the second position with 96.44 percent marks.

No student from the town made it to the merit list. However, two students studying in the government school in Sohana were among the meritorious students. Rupinder Kaur and Kirandeep Kaur, both of whom are science students, attributed their success to their teachers.

“Every year, our school produces meritorious students all of whom achieve success in their academic life and career. It is due to a dedicated team of teachers,” said principal Usha Mahajan.
