The United Kingdom-based international law firm Zaiwalla & Co Solicitors, having represented clients such as President of India, Governments of China and Iran as well as the Bachchans and the Gandhis, is now seeking to represent Indian business houses and companies to resolve their disputes involving foreign partners and clients at a fraction of the cost.
According to the law firm’s founder Sarosh Zaiwalla, who grew up and studied in Mumbai and the first Asian to have set up a law firm in London, disputes are increasing by the day as more Indian companies are investing abroad and getting into joint ventures with foreign companies.
“Now, we have seen more international arbitration cases from India heading to London rather than any other place. I am from India, and we will be happy to assist Indian companies to get justice at the earliest that too at a fraction of cost charged by other British law firms,” Sarosh Zaiwalla, Senior Partner, Zaiwalla & Co Solicitors, told The Hindu .
“Having established our credential all these years in London, we want to represent more Indian companies, and we are seeking to expand our operations in the Asian region, more specifically in India and Middle East. But we don’t have any plans to open offices in India,” Mr Zaiwalla said.
He was in Mumbai along with former cricketer Farokh Engineer, who was recently appointed brand ambassador of the firm to promote its interests in India and Middle East.
Unlike in India, British law firms are allowed to advertise and solicit clients through brand ambassadors. Mr. Engineer will play a pivotal part in promoting the firm to Indian and Middle Eastern audiences.
“Zaiwalla & Co has a long history as a law firm of great repute and standing. Over the course of its 33-year history, it has represented several high profile clients internationally and in the UK, and always gives its clients 100 per cent first-class service and expertise. Many Indian companies do not know about them. I will meet top company executives and promote the firm in this region,” Mr Engineer said.
