Pakistan win Bangladesh series
Leg-spinner Yasir Shah claimed a match haul of seven wickets as dominant Pakistan crushed Bangladesh by 328 runs in the second and final Test in Dhaka on Saturday to clinch the series 1-0.
The hosts, who resumed their second innings at 63-1 chasing an improbable target of 550, were shot out for 221 in the post-lunch session of the fourth day at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium. Shah, who took three for 58 in the first innings, once again baffled the Bangladesh batsmen with his leg-spin and googly on the wearing pitch to grab four for 73 in the second knock.AFP
Rain washes out Ireland-England clash
Rain meant only 18 overs were possible as the lone one-day international between Ireland and England at Malahide ended in a washed-out no result on Friday.
The rain, which interrupted play after 79 minutes, did not relent and the umpires called the match off shortly after 3:00pm local time (1400 GMT).
Mark Wood and David Willey, took a wicket each as Ireland slumped to 56 for four when the rain arrived.AFP
England sack Moores as Strauss gets new role
Peter Moores (right) was sacked as coach of the England team on Saturday by the England and Wales Cricket Board on Saturday as former captain Andrew Strauss was given the new role of director of cricket. "The ECB confirms that Peter Moores has left his role as England head coach today (Saturday)," said a board statement. Moores has now lost the job of England coach on two occasions, having initially been fired from the post in 2009 after a bust-up with then captain Kevin Pietersen.AFP
New Zealand eves to play in India
The New Zealand women's cricket team will be touring India from June 26th to July 15th in a limited overs series that will have five One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.
According to a press release issued by the BCCI, "all five ODIs will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru followed by three T20 Internationals to be played at Alur, Karnataka."PTI
Quinton de Kock fined
Delhi Daredevils batsman Quinton de Kock has been fined five per cent of his match fee for showing dissent to the umpire after being dismissed in his team's six-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad here. "In the Pepsi IPL match in Raipur last evening, Quinton de Kock of Delhi Daredevils was fined 5% of his match fee for showing dissent at the umpire's decision," the IPL said in a statement.PTI

Akashdeep Singh struck twice as India completed a dominating 4-0 win over Japan in the last match to clinch the hockey Test series 3-0, here on Saturday. Apart from Akashdeep, V Raghunath and Dharamvir Singh scored India even as no goal was scored in the first quarter of the game.PTI
Sardar recommended for Khel Ratna; Jitu Rai for Arjuna
Indian men's hockey team captain Sardar Singh has been recommended for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award while 11 other names, including six women, have been put forward by Hockey India (HI) for the Arjuna award. For the Arjuna awards, HI has recommended Danish Mujtaba, Dharamvir Singh, V R Raghunath, P R Sreejesh and S V Sunil among men, while Asunta Lakra, Deepika, Rani, Ritu Rani, Sushila Chanu and Vandana Katariya got the nod among women. Meanwhile, champion pistol shooter Jitu Rai, Rahi Sarnobat and P N Prakash have been recommended by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) for the prestigious Arjuna Awards this year.PTI

Lalita wins bronze
Lalita on Friday bagged a bronze medal in the Women's Freestyle 55kg category, while Babita Kumari lost out on a third-place finish in 53kg division of the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship in Doha. Lalita was defeated by North Korea's Han Kum-ok 3-9 in the semifinal but she managed to settle for a bronze in her category. Fighting for the third-place finish, Babita lost to Zhuldyz Eshimova-Turtbayeva of Kazakhstan 3-6 in the bronze medal play-off.
On Thursday, Vinesh claimed the silver medal in women's 48kg division after losing her final bout to Japan's Yuki Irie, while Narsingh Pancham Yadav bagged a bronze in Men's Freestyle 74kg category.PTI

Kvitova wins Madrid Open
Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova romped to the Madrid Open title on Saturday with a crushing 6-1, 6-2 victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The Czech ended Serena Williams's 27-match winning streak in the semi-finals and was far too good for Kuznetsova, who looked heavy-legged after spending more than 11 hours on court to reach the final. "I am very happy, I am really glad that I could win here for the second time in Madrid," said Kvitova (above), after a timely win just two weeks out from the French Open.AFP
Yuki wins first doubles title of season
Indian Davis Cupper Yuki Bhambri (below-left) clinched his first doubles title of the season with partner Adrian Menendez-Maceiras, following a nerve-wracking win in the rain-hit final of the ATP Challenger event, here on Saturday. The unseeded Indo-Spanish pair was trailing 5-7, 1-1 against the second pair of Sergey Betov and Mikhail Elgin when the skies opened up. Yuki and Adrian were down a break point in the second set when the match began but they held their nerves and went on to win the final 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 in one hour and 23 minutes. It was Yuki's fifth Challenger level doubles title overall and first of the current season.PTI
