HC summons Collector, RDO on contempt plea

May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court has directed the Cuddalore District Collector and the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Virudhachalam to appear before it on June 15 on a contempt petition, which sought to remove encroachments on a water body.

The first Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M. Sathyanarayanan directed the officials and five other contemnors to be present before the court on June 15 with records showing compliance.

Petitioner R. Sekar had in August last year complained that a water body spread over 2.76 acre marked as ‘Thangal’ in village records in Tittakudi taluk of Pennadam town was being encroached by five individuals, which obstructed the course of the water flow in the area.

Numerous representations to the Cuddalore District Collector and Virudhachalam RDO on the matter were not acted upon.
