BHUBANESWAR: Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday rescued three women dancers of Puri district from Jaunpur after their parents lodged complaints with SP (Puri) alleging that they were kidnapped.
They complained against a dance master, who had taken the girls to the North Indian state to perform in a cultural programme.
"The girls are safe. We have sent a team to Jaunpur to bring them back," said SP (Puri) Ashish Kumar Singh.
"We are looking for the choreographer," said Singh.
On April 19, the choreographer took the girls, residents of Kanas and Delanga, to Balasore for a stage show. "After the end of the programme, he took them to UP with their consent," added Singh.
Trouble started when the choreographer wanted the girls to stay for some more days in UP. "The girls were reluctant to do so and informed their parents. The girls said the choreographer forced them to stay," said Singh.
Tracking their cellphones, Jaunpur police reached the hotel where they were staying and rescued them. Quoting Jaunpur police, Singh said the girls were not sexually abused.
"We will record their statements and try to find out why the choreographer forced them to stay in UP," Singh said.
