‘Do away with sops, promote social security schemes’

May 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Lok Satta Party founder president Jayaprakash Narayan has welcomed various schemes being implemented by the Union Government for the social security of poor and middle classes.

The Centre at least now is implementing Prime Minister’s Suraksha Bhima Yojana, Jivan Jyothi Bhima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana and they were all implementable schemes, he said. Providing social security to crores of poor people living in pitiable circumstances is of paramount importance, he said.

Instead of giving sops, temporary benefits, loan waivers and free water and power which would be a drain on State exchequer and do nothing to alleviate poverty, government should promote and give wide publicity for the above social security schemes, he added.
