Liberal Middle Class Tax Plan Puts Money Back In The Pockets Of Surrey Families, Says Dhaliwal

Conservative and NDP completely ignore realities faced by average Canadians says Surrey-Newton Liberal candidate Sukh Dhaliwal.

SURREY – Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada unveiled their own comprehensive program to cut taxes for the middle-class, increase child benefits for middle and low-income families, and ensure that high-income earners pay more.

The $3 billion in tax cuts, which will vary depending on how much individuals and families earn, represent the most progressive tax plan ever introduced in Canadian history, according to some financial experts.

Liberal candidate for Surrey-Newton Sukh Dhaliwal is appealing to Canadians and Surrey-Newton residents to elect a government that considers the interests of all Canadians rather than just the top earning tax bracket.

“Surrey has one of the youngest demographics in British Columbia, and middle class individuals and families have been abandoned by Stephen Harper and his government,” says Dhaliwal.  “The Conservatives support tax cuts that benefit those that need it least, and the Surrey residents I speak to every day are tired of being ignored when it comes to Conservative tax relief.”

The Liberal plan has three major planks:

·      Replace the Conservative income splitting plan that benefits only the top 15% of Canadian households with a middle class tax rate that will be reduced to 20.5% (this represents $670 more to every Canadian earning $44,701 per year)

·      Introduce the “Canada Child Benefit” that will provide tax-free cheques to middle and low-income families worth up to $533 per month (9 out of every 10 families will receive more in monthly child benefits than the Conservative plan)

·      Ensure that the top 1% of Canadians – those that earn $200,000 per year or higher – pay more of their share of the tax burden

Dhaliwal said NDP also remain silent on creating a more equitable tax system, as NDP leader Thomas Mulcair has previously refused to increase taxes on the Canada’s wealthiest citizens.

“Justin Trudeau is the only leader speaking about the realities of average Canadian families,” Dhaliwal said.

“Canadians cannot succeed when their government supports inequality, and both the Conservatives and NDP are out of touch with the daily struggles of Canadian families,” adds Dhaliwal.
